Reduction of CO2 Emissions
  • Moderating office air conditioner temperature settings (no neckties required during summer season)
  • Turning power off during lunchtime and when the last person leaves the office
  • Powering down PCs and other office equipment when not in use, and setting of energy-saving modes appropriate to conditions
  • Reducing printed conference materials through use of projectors
Aggressive introduction of environmentally friendly green products
[Re-use and Recycling of Office Supplies]
  • Using recycled paper stock for business cards
  • Returning used toner cartridges to manufacturers
  • Partial use of recycled items such as toners and drums
  • Employing re-usable consumables for PC printers
  • Using refills instead of disposable pens
  • Using recycled paper for copies and printing
  • Using both sides when copying
Waste Management
Enhancing recycling efficiency by presorting such items as cans, bottles, plastic, paper cups, paper, newspapers and magazines
Environmental Business Activities
Honda Trading has been promoting environmental conservation as one of its 2005 business objectives, working to reduce our global impact and address various environmental issues.

Aluminum Scrap Recycling
Honda Trading established its Aluminum Recycling System approximately 25 years ago. As a result, we have long recognized the value to our customers of what were previously considered to be "waste" materials, and have implemented and encouraged further recycling efforts to make the most efficient use of such valuable resources.
Steel Scrap Business
Since initiating our steel scrap business in conjunction with the End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Law implemented on January 1, 2005, we have been working aggressively in this field. We are currently focusing on the area of automotive recycling and planning to engage in various endeavors to recover and reuse such materials.
Taking part in automobile recycling efforts to promote the establishment of a "circular" society
Honda Trading has established its own internal project team for automotive recycling. With a shared commitment to Japan's End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Law, we are dismantling used automobiles to recycle parts and materials, and are working hard to create smooth and efficient mechanisms for such recycling systems.

Liquefied Aluminum Supply System
In the conventional production and processing of aluminum alloys, metals are initially liquefied by secondary alloy makers and formed into ingots of manufacturer-specified quality and composition. Manufacturers then re-melt the alloys in their plant furnaces in order to create their products. With the Liquefied Aluminum Supply System, quality specifications are verified during the initial liquefaction process and alloys are delivered to manufacturers in a molten state. This eliminates the need for repeated melting, resulting in enormous energy savings.

The Liquefied Aluminum Supply System provides advantages in such areas as improved work environments and product quality consistency, while lowering costs for customers by eliminating their need for liquefaction and environmental equipment. In addition, the system also has captured public attention for its environmental benefits, as it cuts the consumption of heating resources such as oil, gas and electricity, and reduces CO2 emissions. Honda Trading is considering further expansion and development of this system as a future objective for contributing to global environmental preservation.

Allis Sanyo Co., Ltd., the Honda Group's first aluminum liquefaction operation, was established in 1994. Since that time, new plants have been constructed in Indonesia and, domestically, in Gunma and Saitama Prefectures. By supplying aluminum in a molten state from plants located adjacent to customers' facilities, we are eliminating the need for re-melting and helping to substantially reduce both production costs and environmental impact.

Reduction of Packing Materials
We are working to change from wood to other materials for the pallets used for certain parts imported from the US. In addition, we also are helping to reduce CO2 emissions generated through reduction of cargo integration and domestic truck transport, by transitioning from 20-foot to 40-foot containers.
HT Acquires FSC(R) Certification
Certain woods and wooden products are certified as coming from responsibly managed forests by the mark of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®).

The FSC offers two different types of certification.

  • Forest Management (FM) certification indicates that forests are managed in ways that are appropriate for their environments, socially beneficial and economically sustainable.
  • Chain of Custody (CoC) certification verifies that FSC standards are maintained throughout all processes, from sourcing to processing, product manufacture and distribution.

In the management of distribution and printing processes, it’s possible to trace the wood used in a specific product all the way back to the forest in which it grew, by tracing CoC certificate holders from source to final product.

This initiative aims to bring together various related people from forest managers to producers to wood and wooden product consumers in the goal of worldwide forest conservation, through the widespread distribution of products marked with the FSC logo.
